Many people living in Joburg are struggling to make a living. Some are genuinely poor while others beg to fuel their substance abuse habit.

See how you can give your support to established NGOs, churches in this area that provide shelters, showers, social support, training and medical support to the homeless. (NB – these lists exclude the bigger national organisations like Gift of the Givers that are already well-known.)

SHELTERS

• Governor’s House and 3 Kotze street are closed.
• Impilo costs R25 per night (not R35)
• Windsor West shelter (men only)
• Florida shelter – 1 Dan Street, Florida.
• Wembley Shelter (men only) – 105 Turffontein Rd, Turffontein Tel: 011 028 9551. This number serves Florida shelter too.
